6th Annual Conference. June 04, 2014. San Francisco

Most IT organizations are now heavily invested in virtualization, with the majority now on a journey to their “Cloud” – whether private, public or a hybrid combination.

While the journey can be complex, it is now a well-traveled path littered with both successes and failures that we can all learn from.

There is still much speculation around the security and privacy implications of applications in the cloud. With speculation comes fear, and with fear come misinformation and myths. This panel session will address many of these myths and uncertainties about apps in the cloud. It will provide guidance for how businesses can evaluate cloud vendors from a security and privacy perspective, and will offer a glimpse into best practices to protects the data and the privacy of your users.
Core topics to be addressed:
- Centralized cloud governance model;

This panel session will discuss core themes relating to advances and innovations in Cloud technology, and where the Cloud is headed in 2015 and beyond.

This panel discussion will deep dive into enterprise end-user needs and expectations, focusing on how to become more agile by leverage the power of the cloud.

Many enterprises from small business to the largest companies are incrementally moving to a model in which: 1) The business exploits multiple public and private clouds. 2) Use a mix of cloud services that include IaaS, SaaS, web callable APIs and PaaS. 3) View acquiring cloud services to be similar to a commerce experience for physical HW and SW.
The keynote presentation:
1. Enumerates and explains technical challenges for realizing the multi-cloud and cloud marketplace.

The cloud is not some imaginary place in the sky where all our data goes. It requires physical space, power, network connectivity, cooling and physical security. This critical sustenance is provided by data centers. But there is much more to it than that: the data center will play an increasingly significant role in cloud providers’ and enterprises’ cloud strategies. In this talk, Digital Realty’s SVP Matt Miszewski will detail the levels of data center needs, from the basic needs, to higher level needs such as proximity to customers, elasticity and the ability to scale anytime and anywhere, being part of the broader cloud ecosystem.

The cloud is creating new revenue opportunities for equipment OEMs in the industrial market, as they are being pressed to deliver new and higher levels of services to their customers without increasing their costs. An opportunity to create these new service offerings has materialized through the realization of the promise of the Industrial Internet – or Internet of Things – which helps manufacturers connect their intelligent machines to gather data and insights that can empower operators and business managers to make smarter, more informed decisions that can save time and money.

There is no disputing that both Enterprises and Service Providers are embracing cloud. But now, there are some ‘blurred lines’ as enterprises and public and private institutions that share common requirements are banding together through a “Community Cloud” model. Aimed at delivering on-demand, non-competitive services, infrastructure and application software, this new and emerging IP operating model is based on a community cloud platform.

When you work in the telecom industry in North America, you live in two different worlds. In the first world, the mobile industry is growing dramatically with operator capital spending and data consumption increasing at healthy levels. The second world is one with more challenges.  In this world, the reality is that mobile connections are reaching saturation levels, forcing operators to shift their focus to subscriber retention and revenue growth in new areas.

In 2012 Novartis did a strategic evaluation of their middleware strategy which consisted of two traditional, full-featured, on-premises solutions supporting over 140 active integrations. Both were proving slow and expensive to develop and maintain, and the team was spending time and resources on upgrades and maintenance rather than business value.
