Accessing Impact Through Applied School-Based TeleHealth

Session Details

Date: June 18th 2013
Time: 15:05
Location: California Room

Session Abstract

Rural areas of the United States have historically gone unserved or underserved in terms of healthcare. School based telehealth care is a relatively new modality for delivering care to the most vulnerable members of our communities: children. Rural areas have many barriers to overcome in terms of healthcare, with one of the barriers being lack of primary care providers and specialty care providers. In Georgia, over the past 15 year, initializing school based health centers has been difficult. With the introduction of telemedicine as a part of the school based health clinic, Georgia has moved from two clinics to 16 in 3 years and will be in over 41 schools by the end of 2013. These clinics are utilizing telemedicine as a way to provide care. This panel will teach you the steps in conceptualizing and implementing a school based telehealth center in your school system. You will walk away with a road map that can be cultivated to your community's needs.
