Big Data Solutions for Ultra-High-Speed Data Transfer: The Next Big Thing for Life Sciences
Session Details
Session Abstract
Cloud Computing offers many compelling benefits to Life Sciences organizations such as better agility, reduced cost via the pay-for-use resource model and improved data exchange between geographically dispersed research and clinical collaborators. However, one of the key challenges for this industry is the amount of time it takes to move very large amounts of data into and out of cloud environments. In fact, many organizations continue to rely on shipping physical disks in order to exchange data due to inherent problems with commodity 1 Gb Ethernet networks and TCP inefficiencies.
In this session, attendees will learn about a solution that can help address this challenge. A joint effort between Aspera and Intel investigated ultra-high-speed data transfer infrastructure built on Aspera’s fasp transport technology and Intel’s Xeon E5 platform. This investigation shows a significant performance advantage for Aspera transfers on Intel hardware in virtualized computing environments typical of cloud computing platforms.
