6th Annual Conference. June 04, 2014. San Francisco

As author of the first independent study of Cloud Computing Energy Efficiency for Pike Research I predicted cloud computing could lead to a 38% reduction in worldwide data center energy use by 2020. Thanks to recent advances in technology, I now believe that prediction was pessimistic and the reduction will happen sooner. At this talk I will outline the current state of energy usage in captive data centers, contrast that with how hyper-efficient data centers are being run, and look a products on the drawing board that promise even greater energy efficiency.
