6th annual Cloud Slam 2014 Cloud Computing Conference, San Francisco CA, June 4, 2014. Cloud Computing Events 2014 - Nebula http://cloudslam.org/tags/nebula en Welcome to the Future of Enterprise Computing http://cloudslam.org/cloudcomputingconference/welcome-future-enterprise-computing <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Before the introduction of the Apple II in 1977, computing was a proposition only for those with the time and budget to build something incredible from a pool of poorly-standardized parts: hobbyists and large enterprises. Apple didn&#039;t invent computing - but it made it easy and accessible to anybody who wanted, opening the door to the PC revolution. </p> <p>Consider the parallels to the cloud computing market circa 2013: That same PC revolution is showing signs of stalling out, as the cloud makes new advances in mobility and browser-based computing possible. But the public cloud can be costly, and doesn&#039;t always offer the performance, data locality, or certifications that the healthcare and biotechnology industries need. And the private cloud can address these problems, but implementation involves navigating a maze of vendors, APIs, and standards. </p> <p>What the industry needs is an infrastructure that does for the cloud what the Apple II did for personal computing, where standard parts can be used all together and turned on with the flick of a switch. This concept - the Cloud Computer - won&#039;t revolutionize the market - but it will bring it to the next stage of evolution. </p> <p>In this talk, Nebula CEO Chris C. Kemp will describe the situations where the public cloud isn&#039;t meeting the needs of the healthcare industry, why the shift towards big data and mobility mean that it&#039;s time for enterprises to retake control of their IT infrastructure, and how the current approach to deploying private cloud has failed.</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-keywords field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Keywords:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/64" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Private cloud</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/211" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Infrastructure-as-a-Service</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/92" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">OpenStack</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/97" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">NASA</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/nebula" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Nebula</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-spfname field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker First Name:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Chris</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-splname field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Last Name:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Kemp</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-jobtitle field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Job Title:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">CEO</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-company field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Company Name/Affiliation:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Nebula</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-bio field-type-text-long field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Bio:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">At this special event, former NASA CTO, OpenStack co-founder and Nebula CEO Chris Kemp will speak to attedees about what the future holds for cloud computing. </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-company-logo field-type-image field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Company Logo:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://cloudslam.org/sites/default/files/styles/round_70/public/r-logo-black-thumb_0.png?itok=x0OiN_qn" width="72" height="72" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-headshot field-type-image field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Headshot Photo:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://cloudslam.org/sites/default/files/styles/round_180/public/Kemp.jpeg.jpg?itok=bo853sEV" width="172" height="172" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-li field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s LinkedIn Profile:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">http://www.linkedin.com/in/chrisckemp</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-twitter field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Twitter profile:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">@kemp</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-postal field-type-text-long field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Postal Address:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">215 Castro Street 3rd Floor Mountain View, CA 94041</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-room field-type-list-text field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Monterey Room</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-timeslot field-type-datetime field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><span class="date-display-single" property="dc:date" datatype="xsd:dateTime" content="2013-06-18T16:15:00-07:00">Tuesday, June 18, 2013 - 16:15</span></div></div></div> Wed, 05 Jun 2013 18:29:55 +0000 Diane Perry 564 at http://cloudslam.org
