Regardless of whether we call it as SDN, Infrastructure-as-a-Service or Network-as-a- Service, the network should not be considered table stakes, as there is a golden opportunity to monetize the network. </p> <p>There are several new technologies that are intended to make network connectivity, or basic routing and switching, more programmable, intelligent and controllable. This is important, but is largely about making a CSP more efficient. It is hard to sell efficiency as there is little value delivered to the end-user customer. Network services that enhance applications, on the other hand -- such as load balancing and WAN optimization, among others -- by nature are more valuable and therefore should not be given away. </p> <p>In this presentation, John Vincenzo, vice president of marketing of Embrane, will discuss the needs of the enterprise and how CSPs should implement network virtualization in order to appropriately monetize the network. More specifically, he will talk to the need for dedicated services, which are typically only available through managed hosting services that don’t provide agility, rapid provisioning, elasticity programmability, etc., and how to get to a single extensible platform that can evolve with an enterprise’s needs from shared services to dedicated services. With new technologies, network services can be purchased at a variety of service tiers that can flexibly added to match the varying needs of enterprises.</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-keywords field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Keywords:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/507" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Embrane</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/40" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">SDN</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/509" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">network virtualization services</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-spfname field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker First Name:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">John</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-splname field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Last Name:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Vincenzo</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-jobtitle field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Job Title:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Vice President of Marketing</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-company field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Company Name/Affiliation:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Embrane</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-bio field-type-text-long field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Bio:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">A diehard New England sports fan, John gave up his snow shovel and Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins tickets to move to the West Coast and become Embrane’s vice president of marketing. He is responsible for the global promotion, positioning and overall marketing of the company’s virtualized network services solutions. John has nearly 20 years of strategic high-tech marketing experience, including in the networking and telecom industries. Prior to joining Embrane, John was Vice President of Marketing at 3Com Corporation. He oversaw the highly successful public launch of the data center-to-edge enhanced enterprise-networking portfolio, and was a key member of the leadership team that helped 3Com increase its position, market share and awareness in the enterprise networking industry. John also has held several marketing and communications positions with companies including Verizon Communications, Level 3 Communications and Genuity, a leading managed Internet service provider (formerly BBN). John graduated with a Bachelor of Science in communications from Emerson College in Boston. In his offseason, John likes to play basketball or golf and spend time with his wife and young daughter. </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-company-logo field-type-image field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Company Logo:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://cloudslam.org/sites/default/files/styles/round_70/public/Embrane%20logo_1.png?itok=LuM8_owZ" width="72" height="72" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-headshot field-type-image field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Headshot Photo:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://cloudslam.org/sites/default/files/styles/round_180/public/JV%20Headshot.png?itok=pLGDWQKu" width="172" height="172" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-li field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s LinkedIn Profile:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">http://www.linkedin.com/pub/john-vincenzo/0/270/601</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-twitter field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Twitter profile:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">@JV11509 </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-postal field-type-text-long field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Postal Address:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">2350 Mission College Blvd. Suite 703 Santa Clara, CA 95054 United States of America</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-room field-type-list-text field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Oregon Room</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-timeslot field-type-datetime field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><span class="date-display-single" property="dc:date" datatype="xsd:dateTime" content="2013-07-02T06:00:00-07:00">Tuesday, July 2, 2013 - 06:00</span></div></div></div> Fri, 30 Mar 2012 18:37:10 +0000 282 at http://cloudslam.org
