Don definedthe technical strategy and product architecture. This included strategic technology acquisitions (e.g. 3Tera, iTKO, Hyperformix), technical guidance for innovative organic development (e.g. CA Service Operations Insight, Server Automation for Cloud) and product integration and solutions (e.g. Catalyst/Unified Service Model, Integrated Demand Management, CA Open Space).<br /> Prior to joining CA in 2008, Don was a Microsoft Technical Fellow working in the Office of the CTO and in Server and Tools Business. He worked on various projects exploring the future of enterprise software, with a special emphasis on Web services and Internet application platforms.<br /> Don began his career at IBM, where he worked for twenty years. In 2001 Don became an IBM Fellow, IBM's highest technical honor. IBM has approximately 80 IBM Fellows in the 150,000 person engineering team. Don served as chief architect for the IBM Software Group, where he focused on design issues and initiatives spanning the DB2, WebSphere, Tivoli, Lotus and Rational product families. During this time, Ferguson also worked on a number of SOA, web service and web application initiatives, specifications and standards. Don also held the title of chief architect for the WebSphere product family from its inception until becoming IBM Software Group chief architect. Don is often credited as “The Father of WebSphere.”<br /> Don earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University. He has contributed to approximately 30 technical journal and conference publications, and has more than a dozen patents.<br /> The Columbia Engineering Alumni Association of Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University named Don a 2013 recipient of The Egleston Medal. The award is an annual recognition of one or two alumni for “distinguished achievement in engineering or applied science.”</p> <div class="views-field views-field-field-headshot"> <img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://d.reelstor.com/Pe6qrwl9mhBdgs6KEVzMAMc144corLl5/Shailesh-Rao-Headshot.png" width="172" height="164" alt="" /></div> <p><b>Shailesh Rao is Global Director of the cloud business unit at Google</b>. We review the fundamental concept of cloud computing and its evolution in the past few years, followed by an in-depth analysis of the state of cloud and outlook of the mega trends in the space for the next 5 years. Next we anatomize various challenges in the cloud adoptions and implementations, which leads to a methodical approach presented to establish a winning cloud strategy. Afterwards, we will walk through a unified roadmapping framework that systemizes the comprehensive strategization and operationalization of cloudification, composed of 4 incremental stages: Plan, Adopt, Transform, and Harness (PATH). Different roadmapping dimensions will be discussed, along with the best practices to execute PATH: Alignment, Blueprint, Checklist, and Discipline (ABCD).</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-keywords field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Keywords:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/4" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">cloud</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/401" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">trend</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/402" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">outlook</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/403" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">reality check</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/404" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">concept</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/405" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">challenge</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/406" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">adoption</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/407" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">implementation</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/119" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Strategy</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/408" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">operationalization</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/409" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">cloudification</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/410" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">plan</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/411" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">adopt</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/412" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">transform</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/413" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">harness</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/414" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">roadmap</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/415" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Alignment</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/416" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Blueprint</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/taxonomy/term/417" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Checklist</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/taxonomy/term/418" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Discipline</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-spfname field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker First Name:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Tony</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-splname field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Last Name:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Shan</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-jobtitle field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Job Title:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Consultant</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-company field-type-text field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker&#039;s Company Name/Affiliation:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Confidential</div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-bio field-type-text-long field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Speaker Bio:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even">Tony Shan is a renowned thought leader and technology visionary with hands-on field expertise and guru-level insights on advanced enterprise computing in the last 3 decades.
